While most eight-year-olds are just beginning to understand the rules of the game, Nahren Eshw was already finding her rhythm in competition. She still vividly recalls the rush of a tournament championship game—stepping up to the mark, burying a penalty kick, and the pure, unbridled celebration with teammates that followed.

Fast forward to March 6, 2026, and that same composure has led the Christian Heritage Academy (CHA) senior to a defining milestone: committing to play soccer for Wheaton College, with friends and family cheering her on.

On the field, Eshw is a specialist in the "numbered positions" of 4 and 5—the center back (defender). It is a role that requires a unique temperament, one that Nahren says comes to her instinctively.

"I have always had a natural, instinctive, protective nature to protect our goal and the goalie," Eshw says.

That protective streak, combined with years of disciplined development, has made her an anchor for her teams' defense. Her path to the collegiate level wasn't paved by one "magic" skill, but rather the "many little things:" showing up to grueling practices in biting weather, staying consistent through coaching changes, and pushing through the exhaustion of the academic year.

For many athletes, the college search is about stats and scouting reports. For Eshw, it was a matter of faith. Despite exploring several different directions, her compass eventually pointed to Wheaton. "I chose Wheaton because I felt that God was leading me to go there," she explains. "Ultimately, I prayed that God would lead me to where He wanted me, and I just knew as time went on that it was Wheaton." While she hasn't fully narrowed down her academic focus, she is currently weighing two paths defined by service: nursing or elementary education.

Eshw isn’t the first in her family to take her game to the next level. She credits her parents for her work ethic, but points to her older brother and sister—both former collegiate soccer players—as her primary inspirations. They didn't just model the athletic commitment required; they taught her to keep her eyes on a higher purpose.

This spiritual grounding has been bolstered by her time at CHA. Eshw credits teachers like Rev. Stephen Farish for helping her grow in the knowledge of her faith, ensuring that her identity remains rooted in Christ rather than her performance on the field.

As she prepares to put on the orange and blue of the Wheaton Thunder, Eshw leaves behind a legacy of kindness and a clear message for the younger student athletes following in her footsteps:

"Put God in the center of everything. Never let your sport or anything in your life become an idol...just put the work in, and everything else will follow," says Eshw.

It is a philosophy mirrored in her favorite scripture, Proverbs 3:5-6, a passage she returns to whenever she needs peace: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
