Physial Education

As we teach and experience sportsmanship and fair play, as well as cooperation among students in Physical Education classes, the Word of God and its principles are the foundation of our program. Our curriculum is based on Illinois State goals for physical education and instructors evaluate student progress through the stated goals at the appropriate grade level, through student skill tests, cognitive tests and subjective evaluation.

At Chrsitan Heritage Academy, we have the ability to teach about the body from the standpoint of how God made us and how the body works. We are also able to teach sportsmanship and personal character develpment in light of God's standards in Scripture.

Elementary School (Grades K-4)
All Elementary School children have time for PE every day. Because we believe that motor skill acquisition in younger children is highly developmental activites are designed to promote individual motor development and skills. These are regularly assessed by the instructor using selected pre- and post-testing procedures.

Middle School (5-8)
Middle School students have PE four times per week in which students are encouraged to maximize their hands-on experiences to develop physical conditioning skills.

Upper School (9-12)
We know that during the teen years children are learning to become independent and so our aim in PE during 9th through 12th grades is to teach individual wellness skills which a student can carry with him/herself for the rest of their life. All high school students take Physical Education class, beginning with Lifetime Wellness freshman year in which students learn the components of health-related fitness, experience physical training, and monitor their yearly progress through technology such as heart rate monitors, spreadsheets and computers.

Athletics
In Total Release Performance, author Wes Neal describes atheltic perfection as the total release of all that you are toward becoming like Jesus Christ in each situation. We acknowledge that winning is gratifying, but he main thrust is to teach our athletes to exhibit the character of Christ through their actions and attitudes, on and off the field. Our athletic performance is a sstage for displaying Christ. We want to consciously perform God's way through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Christian Heritage Academy has a great tradition of fielding competitive teams who demonstrate skill, character and sportsmanship. Our teams are coached by a mix of volunteer parent or staff coaches in each sport. With our Upper School (9th-12 grades) having opened in 2009, we are building an athletic program which will compete against other Illinois High School Association (IHSA) schools. In its first year (2009), the Upper School was awarded IHSA "Approved Status," which is the first step needed to compete agains other area IHSA schools.

Many competitve, interscholastic sports are already available to Middle School students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Students may participate in co-ed soccer, boys' basketball, girls' basketball, boys' volleyball, girls' volleyball, and co-ed track and field. We are looking forward to building upon these programs as we add high school varsity teams.
