Our third annual Literacy Day was a departure from the usual school day for Kindergarten through 5th Grades.

A variety of exciting interactive reading and writing workshops, designed by teachers, were offered to students who could then choose which workshops they wanted to attend.

In addition, each year an author is invited to share about writing and developing books. This year it was a double pleasure when Kevin Luthardt (a CHA dad and picture book author/illustrator) and Sally Walker (a nonfiction author) spent the day with us. Mr. Luthardt also taught "Creating Storyboards," one of the workshops geared for 3rd through 5th Graders. Middle School students were able to attend a presentation by the authors as well.

Students came away with a heightened appreciation and greater understanding of the writing process and storytelling, and the importance of books in our lives.
