Do I have to be a Christian to come to the Upper School? Students entering Christian Heritage Academy Upper School (CHAUS) must be a Christian or diligently seeking the Savior.
Do my parents have to be Christians? One of the parents must be a Christian.
Is CHAUS accredited? We are working with the Accreditation Commission of ACSI (Association of Christian School International) on a rolling accreditation building up to a fully accredited first graduating class, Class of 2013.
What kind of sports do you offer? We will offer individual and team sports and will be a part of IHSA (Illinois High School Athletic Association).
What’s the tuition cost? $12,500 with several enrollment incentives and scholarships.
Does CHAUS award financial aid based on need? CHAUS will award financial aid based on need.
Will there be merit scholarships? Yes, there will be four $5,000 merit scholarships.
How many students do you hope to have in the ninth grade in fall 2009? Our target enrollment is 40 students. After 40 we start a waiting list.
What’s the overall goal for the size of the student body? Our maximum enrollment will be 300 students.
What is a “Living Curriculum” teacher? A “Living Curriculum” teacher (LCT) loves students and is highly qualified in his / her discipline. An LCT has the spiritual and professional credentials to be a CHAUS teacher. He or she is passionate about their discipline of study.
How is CHAUS’s curriculum different than that of other local high schools? In many ways the core curriculum will be the same. The differences will be in the number of sections, and the number of courses. The CHAUS curriculum will be taught from a Christian world view. CHAUS will have Winterim. CHAUS will have a greater emphasis on critical thinking, research, effective writing, and speaking skills.
Can I take Advanced Placement courses? We will be offering AP courses.
Is there a dress code? Yes – clean, modest and not distracting. The Student Handbook will add clarity to the dress code and to the expectations of CHAUS students.
Why should I enroll at CHAUS? CHAUS students will get an exemplary education based on biblical values. (See Wayne Grudem’s Six Biblical Reasons for Sending Children to a Christian School.) Also, CHAUS students will have opportunities to discover and develop their spiritual gifts, and apply what they have learned in the classrooms. They will understand that it’s not just what they know in life that’s important, it’s what they do with what they know. That’s wisdom.
What facilities are being built for the Upper School? CHAUS students will have access to two new gyms, new student center, black box theater, new classrooms, two remodeled science labs, remodeled visual arts suite, awesome upper school student lounge, and new Library/Computer Center.
