Physical Education
Grades 5-8
As we teach and experience sportsmanship and fair play, as well as cooperation among students in Physical Education classes, the Word of God and its principles is the foundation of our program. Our curriculum is based on Illinois state goals for physical education and instructors evaluate the students' progress through the stated goals at the appropriate grade level, and through student skill tests, cognitive tests, and subjective evaluation.Students have PE four times per week in which students are encouraged to maximize their hands-on experiences to develop physical conditioning and skills. Our gymnasium has full a sized basketball court, lighted scoreboard and mezzanine seating.
The gym is a great arena for Biblical character development and teachers and coaches are attuned to the opportunities it presents for students to grow in spiritual maturity.
Grades K-4
At Christian Heritage Academy, we have the ability to teach about the body from the standpoint of how God made us and how the body works. We are also able to teach sportsmanship and personal character development in light of God's standards in Scripture. Our curriculum is based on Illinois state goals for physical education. Instructors evaluate the students' progress through the stated goals at the appropriate grade level. Since motor skill acquisition in younger children is highly developmental, individual motor development is assessed by the instructor and the use of selected pre- and post-testing procedures.
Athletics
In Total Release Performance, author Wes Neal describes athletic perfection as the total release of all that you are toward becoming like Jesus Christ in each situation. We acknowledge that winning is gratifying, but the main thrust is to teach our athletes to exhibit the character of Christ through their actions and attitudes, on and off the field. Our athletic performance is a stage for displaying Christ. We want to consciously perform God's way through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students may try out for CHA's various interscholastic sports teams. Students may participate in coed soccer, boys' basketball, girls' basketball, boys' volleyball, girls' volleyball, cheerleading and track. Volunteer parent coaches support each sport. Christian Heritage Academy has a great tradition of fielding competitive teams who demonstrate skill, character and sportsmanship. Many of our varsity athletes compete in sports at the high school level.
